I was born in Saigon, Vietnam. My family left Vietnam with the fall of Saigon in 1975. We settled in the San Fernando Valley. I did my undergraduate work at the University of California Riverside. I went on to study at the University of New England, College of Osteopathic Medicine. I trained at Loma Linda University Children's Hospital to be a pediatrician.

My medical journey led me back to osteopathy in my last year of training in pediatrics, when a young man, who was rear-ended in an auto accident, asked for my help. His regular Kaiser MD visits were leading nowhere. He had been going to physical therapy for a knee that had been operated on three times and the range of motion exercises were causing him even more distress. He did not want to continue. I treated him three times for his whiplash and achieved spectacular results – some that I expected and a few that came as a surprise. Admittedly, I was perplexed – asking myself what happened during these visits. What did I do?

I have a pediatric practice but in my second year, I had parents and adults asking for care. I continued getting profound, positive results alleviating a range of issues. Word of mouth spread with zero advertising, and more than 50% of my work today is treating adults with chronic pain. Patients have called me a "miracle worker.” I once had a patient ask me if I "called up spirits,” while my Chinese patients are convinced I am manipulating their chi (qi). I was inspired to brand myself Dr. Fix Me.

An MD once asked me why I did not learn acupuncture since it is generally accepted and more widely familiar. My understanding of acupuncture is the chi (qi) becomes blocked where physical strains intersect. Needles serve to divert chi, but it is only temporary. I release the physical strains and chi flows secondarily.
